The Emperor's New Robes

Posted by Hal'jin

There we go. New layout is... let's call it live. Still I'm going to go through a lot of things here, updating the graphics and such to match the blog's subject somewhat. Of coruse I might always break everything apart and chose a totally different layout as well...

Let me know what you think about it. Any suggestions, ideas? Maybe you spotted some error? (Other than the ugly aquilas that need fixing)

Also, sorry if anyone had troubles accessing yesterday when I was randomly changing templates every few seconds.

Also please vote in the poll on the right.

I like the new look. Its a very nice departure from the standard blogger layout.

Comments:
The top of your page has the aquila plus links for new post and layout. As a visitor we don't need to see the admin links (least not up on top of the layout).

The name of your blog "42nd Cadian" (and the link to the front page) is much smaller than the aquila. I tried to click the bird to return to the home page. Recommend removing the "ugly" aquila or making the name larger.

The log in bar from Blogger also seems to be missing.

I like it! I liked your old layout just as much for different reasons, it was easy to navigate and the top banner immediately showed off your quality work
So how did you make such drastic changes? I look at templates and that all they are, yet some people can make a blog look totally unique

Thanks for the feedback. Navbar is gone for good, I just can't seem to be able to make it to appear properly. The admin links have disappeared as you probably noticed.

As for why, the basic idea is I wanted a wider template and 3 column layout, since I wanted more things to be on the top of the page, visible straight away.

I will be gradually updating the layout to make it look more imperial. At the same time I get some practice with XML and graphics, something that surely might come in hand in a future job.

The picture banner is gone, though I might put up a smaller out there somehow. While the officer on it looked good, I somehow didn't really like the banner itself. I'm unfortunately the kind of person that needs everything to be perfect and studying what I am (computer science) I cannot allow my own website to look like it was made by inept, right? ;)

Keep the feedback coming please.

This is a great look, Hal'jin: I like it a lot.

I'll miss the brilliant image of the officer though: a mate of mine who hates (and mocks) wargaming happened to see it on my screen the other day, and his response was "WOW!"

I love the fact too that this comments page is still old-skool 'blogger'!

I really like this layout! Very nice indeed. In fact... I think I might be a bit jealous!

Okay, here we are. There will probably be some minor changes in the future, but that's it for now. I got a maths test to study for!

Any opinions?

Steer clear of "natasha" above, mate.

Especially if you're on a work computer!

Do you think geeky wargamers' blogs are targeted directly?

Should I be offended that "natasha" hasn't posted on my blog?

Is this the kind of clientele your new layout attracts?

Hmmm...

Hmm? What are you talking about, citizen, Drax? Move along and stop spreading misinformation!

The Inquisition has already taken care of everything, worry not!

In the other news, nothing over the internet is free, don't trust them! Never let the template, or its images, be linked on some other site.
